About us

13rushes started in 2013 as a brush brand. Yuhui founded it while studying at NTU, making cruelty-free synthetic brushes. In 2017 they won Her World's Best Makeup Brush award, and today makeup students in 38 countries use them.

We're makeup artists, and we started the Academy because so many people find makeup daunting. It shouldn't be. Once you know your colours there's far less to decide, and makeup becomes easy and fun.

How we're different

  • We're makeup artists

We do makeup for a living, so your colour result goes straight into a look you can recreate at home, not just a palette on paper.

  • We know all the naming systems

We work with Japan's PCCS, Korea's KS and the Western 12-season model. If you were told you're Summer Mute in Seoul, we can tell you how that lines up with Soft Summer here.

  • A large swatch library

Our drape fabrics cover more than 1,000 colours, from Korea, Germany, Italy and China. More fabrics means finer comparisons and a more reliable result.

  • We make the brushes

In class you use our own 13rushes brushes, and the 1-1 makeup class comes with a brush kit to take home.

Become a colour analyst

Our professional course teaches PCCS, KS and the 12-season model side by side, using our full swatch library. It's for makeup artists, stylists, or anyone who wants to start offering colour analysis.

Questions

Colour analysis

What is colour analysis?

We hold fabric drapes under your face in good light and compare them, one against another, to find the colours that suit your natural colouring. The result is your season and a short list of colours for makeup, clothes and hair.

Which systems do you use?

Japan's PCCS, Korea's KS and the Western 12-season model. We can give you your result in all three.

What's the difference between 4 seasons and 12 seasons?

The 4-season version sorts you into Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter. The 12-season version splits each of those into three, for example Light, Warm or Bright Spring, so your colour list fits you more closely. Private sessions use 12 seasons. Corporate sessions use 4.

I had colour analysis in Korea or Japan. Will my result match?

Studios use different systems and names for the same seasons. Because we know PCCS, KS and the 12-season model, we can explain how your earlier result compares, and refine it if needed.

Can my season change?

Your undertone stays the same. A deep tan, grey hair or a big change in hair colour can shift which shades within your palette look best, and we'll show you how to adjust.

Do you do colour analysis for men?

Yes. Draping works the same way for everyone. If you don't wear makeup, we focus on clothing and hair colours instead.

Booking and payment

How do I book?

Tap “Pick a date” on any private session to message us on WhatsApp with your preferred dates and times. We'll confirm your slot and send a payment link. For corporate sessions, groups and vouchers, message us on WhatsApp too.

Can I choose my trainer?

Yes. Tell us whether you'd like Yuhui or Susan when you message us to book.

Is it cheaper if I bring a friend?

Yes. Colour analysis for two is S$450 (S$225 each) and the 1-1 makeup class for two is S$800 (S$400 each). Choose “Me and a friend” under Private sessions.

Before your session

What should I wear?

A plain top in white, beige or grey, so the colour of your clothes doesn't affect what we see.

Should I come with makeup on?

Come with no makeup, or very light makeup we can remove. If you can, skip tinted sunscreen and coloured contact lenses.

Do I need to bring my own makeup?

No. We provide all the makeup and clean 13rushes brushes. Bring your makeup pouch if you'd like us to go through what you already own.

Can a friend come along to watch?

Yes. If they'd like their own analysis too, book the session for two and you each pay less.

Can I take photos?

Yes, and we'd encourage it. Bring a phone or a tripod, and we'll tell you the best moments to capture.

Where is the studio?

Near Tai Seng MRT in Singapore. We'll send you the full address and directions when you book.

Makeup classes

Should I book a private class or the small-group programme?

Book a private session if you want everything in one appointment with your trainer's full attention. Choose the Modular Makeup Programme if you'd rather learn one area at a time over a few weeks, with practice in between.

I'm new to makeup. Is this for me?

Yes. We plan each session around your level, whether you're starting from scratch or want help with one thing, like your base or eyeshadow.

What do I take home?

Every colour analysis comes with a printed swatch guide and a digital colour report. With the 1-1 makeup class you also get a Brea's Adventure Travel Kit from 13rushes, worth S$119.

Which brushes do you use?

Our own 13rushes brushes, cleaned between clients. Ask us if you'd like to know which ones you used.

How many people are in a programme class?

Up to 4, so the trainer can watch and correct each person.

Corporate and groups

How many people can you take?

Our corporate packages cover up to 25, 30 or 40 people, each at one fixed price. For bigger groups, ask us.

Do you come to our office?

Yes. We can run the session at your office or event venue, or you can bring your group to our studio.

What do you need from us at the venue?

A room with good, even light, a table for our swatch boards, and chairs for participants. We bring the drapes and everything else.

Do you host bridal showers and birthdays?

Yes, at our studio. See group sessions or message us with the date and how many people.

Vouchers and the course

How do gift vouchers work?

Message us with the session and the name to put on the voucher.

Do you teach colour analysis?

Yes, we run a professional colour analyst course. See the course or message us for the next intake.

Who is the course for?

Makeup artists, stylists and anyone who wants to start offering colour analysis. You don't need to know PCCS or KS beforehand.

Not sure which season you are?

Three quick questions for a rough idea. It's only a starting point. We confirm your season in person with the drapes.

Gold or silver: which makes your skin look brighter?

How much contrast is there between your hair, skin and eyes?

Strong means very dark hair against fair skin. Soft means they blend together.

Which pink suits you better?

These are the palettes from our studio swatch boards.

This is a guess from three questions. In the studio we check it with the drapes, then test lip, blush and foundation on you.

Questions before you book?

Send us a WhatsApp and tell us what you'd like help with. We'll suggest the right session.
